It is located in the south-west of Soria, in the Ribera del Duero region. It is a hunting ground and a fishing area, with pine forests and picnic areas by the Duero riverside.
Three hiking branch lines GR-86 leave from Quintanas de Gormaz. It is by the Cid’s Road, known as The Gormaz’s Caliph’s Fortress (10th century). It is near Lobos River Canyon and next to some villages that have remains and romanesque churches. We can find Celtiberian Roman sites: Uxama, Termancia, Numancia.
Quintanas de Gormaz: with reddish horizons and pine forests, its past is before celtiberians, in a celtic fortification and in a celtiberian necropolis. We can visit the schools and its resin museum, its underground cellars and the winepress in Recuerda.
We look for a castle aground in the plain. Its name is Gormaz’s Caliph’s Fortress (10th century) and something happens in the look and in the entrails when we go up to this wind fortress, fascination and memory that break the extreme horizontal landscape. At his feet, the village invites you to take you around The Bronze Age, the Iron Age necropolis, the Roman villa in Fuentes Chiquita, some Latin inscriptions, Visigothic remains, etc.. Its Romanesque chapel, dedicated to San Miguel, is Cultural Interest property and it accommodates valuable paintings from 11th and 12th centuries. The church, with its Paleochristian baptismal font, stands out between the crowd roofs. Further on, the travel continuous under a clear sky: the intense light that almost always covers the clear region.
